PRESS RELEASE Wednesday, 16 May 2007 Largest EU conference on nanotechnology to be held in Germany for the first time The Federal Ministry for Research will present the potential offered by the technology of the future at the EuroNanoForum 2007 in Düsseldorf. Europe’s largest specialist conference on nanotechnology will take place in Germany this year for the first time. The German Ministry of Education and Research has invited 1,000 international delegates to Düsseldorf in the context of Germany’s EU presidency. The EuroNanoForum 2007 from 19th to 21st June in the Congress Center Düsseldorf will highlight the potential for industrial applications that is offered by the future technology concerning nanoparticles. An ongoing exhibition about the industry will make the subject visible for all to see. After the EuroNanoForum 2003 in the Italian city of Trieste and 2005 in Edinburgh (Scotland) this conference will continue the series of conferences supported by the European Commission in Düsseldorf with high-calibre delegates from the ranks of industry, science and politics. Among those expected are Thomas Rachel, Parliamentary State Secretary in the Ministry for Research, Dr. Mihail C. Roco, Senior Advisor for Nanotechnology at the US National Science Foundation (NSF) and Dr. Markus Pridöhl, coordinator and spokesperson for the nanotechnology division at Degussa AG. Representatives from European technology companies and leading scientists in the area of nanotechnology from all over the world will have the opportunity to exchange views and initiate cooperative ventures. Varied programme The conference offers a detailed introduction to the subject of industrial applications of nanotechnology in a wide variety of discussions and panels. These will take the different demands placed on the inter-disciplinary technology by the various sectors into consideration. Discussions on fundamental issues relating to nanotechnology—such as standardisation for example, quality assurance or social acceptance—will round off the programme. Also included in the conference is an exhibition concerning the industry. It will demonstrate clearly to conference delegates how nanotechnology will soon be improving production processes and products.
